23,100 documented killings in Syria, March 18, 2011 thru August 2, 2012
  Total Places: 185
  Total Months: 18

We have cataloged reports on more than 23,000 uprising-related deaths (in 185 places throughout the 14 provinces). Checking the recent report release here through August 2, 2012, we are currently running names on more than 85% of deaths (many we haven’t had time to update to the site, but are in our freely available database):

Data is available in
 - Google Earth (GE) is available here (if you don't have GE, you can download it for free here)
 - Detailed daily list of each victim from March 18, 2011 thru August 2, 2012 is available here

Of the 21,038 documented killings as of July 21, 2012, 7 percent are women and 93 percent are men. Syria Tracker has found that the women killed were significantly younger than the men—on average, about seven years younger. The average age (in years) for men is 26; for women, 19.

The main causes of deaths for women in Syria is as follows: 43% Bombing, 24% Gunshot wound, 11% Shot by Sniper, 7% Slaughtered, 4% Open wounds, 3% Bombardment aviation, 2% Lack access to treatment, 2% Bomb explosion, 1% Under torture, and 3% Other (tear gas, burn, suffocation, etc.).

Data indicate that UN Ceasefire didn't have much effect on the continued as you could, over the entire 18 months period, predict the behavior after the UN Ceasefire from the behave of killing in the period preceding that in all 14 provinces (statistically significant at the 0.009 level).

Syria Tracker is a crowdsourced effort began collecting reports from the country in April 2011; just a few weeks after the first protests began. The members include nine US-based Arab Americans and one US-based American. Unfortunately, for the security of those reporting from within Syria, most reports are not fixed to a GPS location. Users that submit reports via the website can graphically indicate a location on the map.  Reports by twitter are mapped to the lowest level of detail based on the description and recorded as a Lat Lon.  We have used an GIS application to reverse map against shapefiles for the Syrian Administrative districts at levels 1, 2, and 3, and can now correlate death reports with elements from the Syrian 2004 Census, which, although not necessarily the most current, can still provide some understanding.
